Millions of dollars’ worth of damage caused to Azerbaijan’s ecosystem: Criminal cases opened

According to the results of investigation held by the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, it was established that illegal sand extraction at Mirzagishlag, Talbgishlag, Garalchay and Gudialchay sand and gravel deposits in Guba District caused an environmental damage worth a total of AZN 1,144,000.

Based on the collected materials five criminal cases were initiated under Articles 188 (violation of the right of ownership, use or lease of land), 255 (violation of rules of protection and use of land) and 308 (abuse of power) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office is put in charge of the investigation.
