Iran and Russia to discuss construction of North-South corridor in Baku

Earlier, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Shahriar Afandizadeh stated that Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia would jointly invest in the construction of the Rasht-Astara railroad project. According to him, the issue of investments will be discussed at the upcoming meeting in Azerbaijan.

“North-South” is a 7.2 thousand km long international transport corridor designed to provide transport connection between the Baltic states and India through Iran. Its main advantages over other routes are: reduction of shipping distances by half or more, reduction of container transportation costs compared to the cost of transportation by sea route.
