Iran has issued a NOTAM stating that unmanned aerial vehicles will be operating at altitudes ranging from ground level up to 10,000 feet (approximately 3,300 meters) near the border with Azerbaijan.

This was reported by haqqin.az, which cited the monitoring service Flightradar24; the platform also published the coordinates of the maritime area where Iran issued the NOTAM warning.

NOTAM (an abbreviation for Notice To Air Missions, formerly Notice to Airmen) is a notice distributed via telecommunication systems containing information on the establishment, condition, or change of any aeronautical facility, service, or procedure, or information about hazards essential to personnel involved in flight operations.

In the current situation, this warning from Iran means that the airspace over the entire maritime zone along Azerbaijan’s borders in the Caspian Sea is closed to all types of flights. This indicates that Iran is conducting drone-related exercises in this airspace.

The Iranian drone exercises over the Caspian Sea are taking place amid the mobilization of significant U.S. military forces in the region and Tehran’s warnings about possible military operations against it.
