Hikmet Hajiyev: Azerbaijan considers itself part of the Global South

Azerbaijan considers itself part of the Global South, and for this reason the country understands the challenges faced by this region. Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, said this at the General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform.

According to him, Azerbaijan has a clear understanding of the problems faced by Global South countries, including the consequences of colonialism and neocolonialism, as it has itself encountered similar challenges.

Hajiyev recalled that during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, the fight against neocolonialism was one of Baku’s priorities.

He also stated that the Global South is underrepresented in international institutions, including the UN Security Council, and stressed the need for fair representation in the process of reforming the organization.
