President Ilham Aliyev has said that Azerbaijan’s policy is aimed at consolidating long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus while turning the region into an important part of wider Eurasian connectivity.

In his message to the participants of the international conference “Regional Contribution to Global Security: Peacebuilding in the South Caucasus”, held in Shusha, the head of state noted that recent developments have created a new political reality in the region.

According to President Aliyev, the Joint Declaration signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington last year, in the presence of US President Donald Trump, as well as the initialing of the peace agreement, significantly changed the situation in the South Caucasus.

He emphasized that the Zangezur Corridor, which is now being implemented, will not only ensure a direct connection between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, but will also become one of the key segments of the Middle Corridor.

The project is expected to strengthen East-West transport links and increase the strategic role of Azerbaijan as a central transit hub between Europe and Asia.
