The European Union is considering further steps to deepen its relationship with Azerbaijan, including the potential expansion of support for humanitarian demining efforts, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said following a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.

According to Kallas, the EU is reviewing how it can strengthen cooperation with Baku across several areas, particularly in energy and trade. She emphasized that Azerbaijan remains a reliable energy partner for Europe, playing a significant role in ensuring stable supplies.

The EU is also assessing the possibility of increasing its support for mine clearance in areas affected by past conflict. While no specific decisions have been made, Brussels is examining how it can respond to calls for broader international assistance in this field.

Kallas noted that the South Caucasus is viewed as a strategically important region, with stability and security remaining key priorities for the European Union. She described recent progress in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process as an opportunity for long-term normalization across the region.

At the same time, the EU is expanding its engagement with Armenia. The bloc has agreed to establish a new civilian mission aimed at strengthening the country’s resilience, including in countering disinformation and cyber threats, while also seeking to deepen overall cooperation with Yerevan.
