A couple of years ago, I accompanied former Israeli Communication Minister Ayoob Kara and a group of foreign journalists on a trip to the war-torn Karabakh region, seven months after the conclusion of the Second Karabakh War, which ended in November 2020.

After 30 years of occupation by Armenia, most of Karabakh was liberated by Azerbaijan in 2020. Much of the territory was devastated by war and restoration work, notably mine clearance, continues. The French photographer Gregory Herpe travelled to Karabakh after the liberation and an exhibition of his work has been held in the European Parliament in Brussels.

Over the past three years, tremendous work has been carried out to restore the primary road, energy and utility infrastructure of the Karabakh and East Zangazur economic regions so that the citizens of Azerbaijan who were forced to leave their homes can return to their homelands.

Savaş Eğilmez, head of the Turkish Association for Combating Unfounded Genocide Accusations (ASIMED), said that four thousand Shiite fighters, members of proxy groups of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), are being trained in Karabakh side by side with members of the Armenian VOMA terrorist group and Kurdish PKK fighters.
