Constructing long-term peace requires genuine political will, prestige and a record of untarnished leadership. When Russia negotiated an agreement in November 2020 following the second Nagorno-Karabakh War, spirits were high for a proposed revival of connectivity and economic cooperation to decrease tensions and ultimately lead to a sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

ADY Container, a subsidy of Azerbaijan Railways, extends its collaboration with Pasifik Eurasia, the official operator of Turkish Railways. The two companies are setting up a new project where ADY Containers will transport cargo from Azerbaijan to Turkey, and then Pasifik Eurasia will carry it forward to Europe.

After the Second Karabakh War, the tripartite ceasefire agreement on November 10, 2020, opens a possibility for Iran to become connected to the southern railway network in the South Caucasus. As a result of the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, an important part of the South Caucasus Railway, which passed through the Nakhichevan region, Syunik Province in southern Armenia, and Jabrail, Fizuli and Zangilan regions in southern Azerbaijan, was destroyed or removed from communication routes. As a result, unlike Turkey and Russia, Iran has no rail connection to the Caucasus.

Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) is increasing the number of flights and routes allowed between Russia and Azerbaijan. The ruling covers not just flights to Baku, but also to the Azerbaijani cities of Ganja, Lankaran, Gabala, and Zagatala.
