Macron speaks of normalizing relations in letter to Aliyev

French President Emmanuel Macron sent a congratulatory letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of Independence Day. The text of the message was published on the website of the President of Azerbaijan.

“On the occasion of the national holiday of the Republic of Azerbaijan, I wish you and the Azerbaijani people peace and prosperity.

I would like to reaffirm my intention to continue working toward the normalization of our relations in order to fully realize the potential of bilateral cooperation — both within the framework of dialogue on regional issues and in the fields of economy, culture and education.

I hope that, in a spirit of partnership, we will be able to overcome the recent difficulties that have hindered the development of bilateral relations.

Taking this opportunity, I would also like to reaffirm France’s full support for the continuation and completion of the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which will make it possible to open a new chapter for the well-being of all the peoples of the region.”

Independence Day is celebrated in Azerbaijan on May 28.
