Azerbaijan and Türkiye have signed a memorandum of understanding on the modernization of armored vehicles and their equipment with protection systems against unmanned aerial vehicles.

Turkish company Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi (MKE) signed a memorandum of understanding on the modernization of armored vehicles with MİRAS Savunma Sanayii Şirketi, which is part of the structure of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense, at the international defense exhibition SAHA 2026 in Istanbul. The document was signed by MKE Director General İlhami Keleş and MİRAS head Khanbaba Sultanli.

The parties plan to carry out joint production, including the modernization of BMP-1 vehicles, as well as the integration of Tolga counter-UAV systems onto them.

Speaking at the ceremony, İlhami Keleş said that Azerbaijan is a country with which Türkiye cooperates on the principle of “one nation, two states.”
